Networking question

Featured Replies

I need to extend the switch capacity in my home.. I am thinking of moving the 16 port netgear that I have to my central location where my modem comes in, there are a lot of low usage network connections needed there.

If I do that I need to add a new switch to my office setup. Since I have a lot of Mikrorik stuff allready I am thinking about:

https://mikrotik.com/product/CSS326-24G-2SplusRM

Its a 24 port -managed- GB switch with two SFP's.

Now what I would like to do is add an 10GB SFP DAC cable to the setup and use that to access my server and its backup...

Anyone have any experience with this kind of setup and an advice for the hardware to use ?

I have that same switch and used it in the same setup:

I originally used it to have an external computer access the server via 10gbe using dac's (and provide network access as well for the server.) I have recently moved that switch to become my "house switch" and picked up the 4 port sfp+ switch mikrotik makes and use that in place of the 24 port (since I didn't need all those gigabit ports in my office.)

Great response !

Based on the specs I was expecting this to be a good thing so I actually just ordered the switch and also ordered two of these via ebay:

HP 592520-B21 4X QDR CX-2 Dual Port Adapter Mellanox ConnectX-2 MHQH29B-XTR

I will add one card into unraid, one card in my pc... And then with the switch in between I should be fine !

Only need to find a DAC cable that should work with Mikrotik and Mellanox... Any advice ?

I'm using some Cisco cables that came with my connect x2 cards. SFP-H10GB-CU3M. I think (don't hold me to this 100%) but any Cisco or generic would work. I'm basing this also on my recent digging around looking for SFP+ rj45 copper transceivers for my in-home cat 6a wiring (which I'll use to make a 10gbe trunk between switches), and the good folks at fs.com told me Cisco or generic transceivers would work just fine with the MikroTik SFP+ ports.
