mkny13
So I'm just about done preclearing mt first two 2tb drives in my new unraid server. I'll eventually be adding another 4 1TB drives. Here's the question--I found an old 160GB drive and I'm thinking of adding it as a cache drive but it's old enough that its only got a 1.5Gb/s transfer speed. Would that bottleneck be enough to outweigh the performance gain of having a cache drive? All the large drives are SATA 3.0. I could just try it out both ways but I'd like to save the time and effort if anyone already knows. There's gigabit ethernet between my PC and the server, but I guess even that is slower than 1.5Gb/s, so maybe it won't matter. Still, seems like a question worth asking... Thanks, Mike Link to comment
Rajahal
You are correct, gigabit LAN is slower than 1.5 Gb/s. Therefore, your 160 GB drive would make a fine cache drive. Go for it! Link to comment
