GIGABYTE GA-M57SLI-S4

Any thoughts on using/not-using this for unRAID?

I can get the mobo/cpu for $100!

Thanks.

I would recommend against it, here's why:

1) No onboard video

2) Older Gigabyte model, so possible HPA issues

Also, depending on the CPU bundled with it, $100 isn't that good of a deal.  You can buy a brand new mobo that is great for unRAID for around $50-$70, and then a Sempron 140 is around $30.

I think the HPA is disable-able (ha!) in the BIOS, and the CPU is an X2 5800+.

Just being able to disable HPA isn't enough.  It needs to be disabled by default.  Otherwise, it will revert to HPA enabled when your CMOS battery dies, it is likely to clobber your data.  It really isn't worth the risk.

Also, still no onboard video.

I am in agreement there and didn't purchase it after all. Thanks for the heads up!
