Parity Check Last Night Finished and Now Both Parity's are Missing

Featured Replies

I just had my end of the month parity check for both my (10 tb) parity hard drives and for some reason both my 10 tb parity's are no longer being shown on Unraid.

After this, I did a reboot through Unraid to see if they're still showing up in the bios, and confirmed that they are and simply not showing up in Unraid after the parity check.

Please help.

Did you take diagnostics zip file (via Tools->Diagnostics) so we could see what lead up to this before rebooting (the log information is lost on a reboot)?

Regardless you should provide the diagnostics for the current position to get feedback.

Not sure if this is important, but my Dashboard, no longer shows the third bar chart fro the flash log docker. It shows up as "Not available"

Diagnostics after reboot. Array isn't started, and neither parity is showing in SMART. Check all connections, power and SATA, then post new diagnostics.

Correct.

I can't start up the array without the parity. I will open the server now and re-try the connections and re-post in a few minutes

After opening up the server, I switched (1) cord, which I'm hoping was to my parity with another drive. I actually am not 100% sure if one of them went to a parity, but I'm assuming it is.

After that, I started up the server and now everything is perfect. This is strange because originally two parity's were not showing, yet I'm using the same cords, just switched one cord with another, but still using the same cords.

I am using an 8 port controller if it matters. SUPERMICRO AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 PCI-Express 2.0 x8 SATA / SAS 8-Port Controller Card

I have also attached the new diagnostics. I have never encountered this issue until my parity check a night or so ago.

EDIT# 1:

After further review, I now have a new warning from my "Fix Common Problems" plugin that I haven't received in the past. Keep in mind this is the same hardware as day 1

Looking at the parity check on the "main" page, it found a total of 5 errors. How do I go about viewing and correcting the errors?

Marvel Hard Drive Controller Installed

Quote

It appears that your server has a Marvel based hard drive controller installed within it. Some users with Marvel based controllers exhibit random drives dropping offline, recurring parity errors during checks etc. This tends to be exacberated if VT-D / IOMMU is enabled in the BIOS. Generally, LSI based controllers would be preferred over Marvel based controllers because of these issues. Note that these issues are out of Limetech's hands. Depending upon the exact combination of hardware present in your server, you may not have any problems whatsoever. If you have no problems, then this warning can be safely ignored, but future versions of unRaid (and later Kernel versions) may (or may not) present you with the previously mentioned issues.

I had to power down my server one last time to move it back to its orignal location, and I'm back to the same problem. Both parity's will not show. My previous diagnostics was outputted when they did show though.

The disks looked OK in that diagnostic.

Did you recheck all connections after moving your server?

Connectors should sit square on the connection with enough slack in the cable so they stay that way. Also, don't bundle SATA cables.

I don't know if that controller is an issue or not. Some people don't seem to have a problem with them and others do.

And make sure you check all power connections from each disk all the way back to the PSU, especially if you have splitters or extensions along the way.

How do I go about correcting the (5) errors from the parity check? The only errors I can access are from the plugin, common errors, and it pertains to my marvel controller, which says their are issues with disconnecting hard drives, yet only my parities are disconnecting. I don't know how to see the errors from the past parity check.

I'm pretty confident that my controller is the problem, even though its just the parities that are having trouble connecting. It seems weird all my hard drives are working fine, except the two parities and that they failed right after the parity check. My server is also in a fixed location, so I don't think it was the wire connections

I have re-arranged my cables multiple times and the parity didn't show up again until re-adjusting the cables with 10+ tries and powerdowns.

I'm afraid to power-down again now that they showed up

On the Main tab make sure the "Write corrections to parity" checkbox is ticked and then hit the Check button!
