May 5, 20197 yr I need some help with setting the correct split level and taking advantage of cache and hardlink when using rtorrent, sonarr and radarr This is my folder structure shared/media/movies/movie folder/.mkv shared/media/tv/tv show/season/.mkv shared/downloads/torrent/incomplete shared/downloads/torrent/completed/tv or /movies I see a lot of recommendations on making separate shares for tv/movies/downloads but from what I understand I can only use hardlinks within the same share? So what is the best way to make sure that related files is in the same movie folder, and at least all episodes within a season is kept together? Can I make use of my cache drive with this setup for downloads?

Not possible if all are under the same share, some split level examples here: https://forums.lime-technology.com/topic/59589-solved-v635-advice-please-on-shares-settings/?do=findComment&comment=584558
May 5, 20197 yr Author Hmm. What will happen if I set lvl 4? What if I add a sub folder to my movie folder? Edited May 5, 20197 yr by ProphetSe7en
May 5, 20197 yr Community Expert It will work if you add an extra subfolder to the movies folder, making it the same depth as the tv folder.
May 7, 20197 yr Author I see. So if this is my setup, what lvl do I need to set to keep all related files within a season on the same drive?
May 7, 20197 yr Community Expert Do you have an actual share called ‘shared’, or do you have ‘downloads’ and ‘media’. I would think you want separate shares for ‘downloads’and ‘media’? If so the split level for ‘media’ should be set to 3 so that the first 3 levels can be on any drive, but the 4th level (where the season Folder exists) is constrained to the drive where the folder for it is first created. if you only have the top level ‘shared’ share then you want 4 for the split level to get the correct behaviour on the ‘media’ path. However then you may not get the ‘download’path behaving like you want
May 7, 20197 yr Author My share is called shared. This is the one avaliable for my dockers and is were my downloads and media folders are located. The reason I have downloads and media within the same share is to use hardlinks with torrent client and sonarr/radarr. If I make different shares for tv/movies/downloads hardlink wont work since it has to be inside the same share from what I have been told. I would have preferred to have it as 3 different shares with 3 different split lvl based on the folder structure but then I cant use hardlinks and every download takes twice the space on my drives. I might be misinformed regarding hardlinks?
May 7, 20197 yr Author Regarding the download path: I will add a torrent folder so the path will be like this: shared/downloads/torrent/completed/tv/ shared/downloads/torrent/completed/movies/ I set split level to automatically split only the top four directory levels as required? Then all content in these folders will stick together? completed/tv, completed/movie, /tvshows/season and movie/moviefolder
