CPU Speed vs Write Speed

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been using UNRAID now for 2 days and overall am quite happy with it.

My system build has:

Athlon 200GE

16GB RAM

I've noticed that read speeds are extremely impressive and basically saturate my gigabit network at home.  However write speeds are very dismal.  It starts off very fast and then drops down to zero MBPS and then spikes up back to close to gigabit for a while then goes back to Zero.  The transfer window graph looks like a Sine wave :)

During the write phase I did notice that the CPU utilization is quite high.  Would it be possible that the parity requires a bit of CPU horsepower to do?  If that's the case then I may need to upgrade to another CPU since my server is mainly write heavy.

2 parity disks do require a fair amount of CPU cycles A single parity disk is minimal impact

In fact, not 200GE CPU horse pwoer relate.

First, reconstruct write turn on ?

Gotcha.  That said, why is my write speeds quite slow?  Is there a way I can diagnose?

It was set to "AUTO".  I checked the WIKI and adjusted it to "RECONSTRUCT WRITE".  I'll reboot the server and report back on if there is any performance increase or not.

Thanks for the tip!

It will help a lot if not read write in same time happen at any disk. But this won't final solve the transfer in sine pattern.

The tunable helped quite a bit!  In fact it's now what I expected the transfer to look like.

Thank you @Benson
