Pappy
Maybe I found a problem. I noticed it yesterday. LANCACHE files are set to two disks. Once disk 6 was full to 50%, he started saving the files to disk 7, but did not read the files from disk 6 when reinstalled. I download each game twice for LANCACHE testing (1x VM and 1x PC). Since yesterday, some games have been downloaded from the net again. These are games that are stored on disc 6. LANCACHE has started to ignore disc 6 and stores everything in disc 7 again. Thank you for your support. PS: I need to figure out a way to collect data from disk 7 to disk 6. Krusader contains folders it cannot open. Edited February 28, 2020 by Pappy Quote Link to comment
Marshalleq
Hmmm, I wonder if this would be faster on ZFS with my 256GB NVME L2 read cache. I have a strong suspicion it would be advantageous.... Quote Link to comment

Pappy
Global Share Settings I think well : I'm trying second advice. It will take a long time for a large number of files. I turned off Krusader before running New Permissions. Quote Link to comment
Josh.5
Just came across this after discovering the monolith cache, thanks for it! I did some testing with it on a small Steam game and checking out the download speeds and I'm not seeing any improvements in my download speed. I see hits against the nginx/access.log but I don't see anything that indicates if it was a cache hit or not. I do see files being saved to ./lancache/cache. How can we tell if we get a cache hit or not?Open a terminal on unraid.Run :tail -fn1 /mnt/user/appdata/lancache-bundle/log/*/*.log Quote Link to comment
Josh.5
Can anyone else confirm that they can actually connect to steam using lancache? I tried it a few weeks ago and I was able to do everything in lancache except connect to steam. It resolved DNS etc correctly (actually much faster than steamcache), but steamcache was the only one that would actually let me connect to steam for some reason.Yes. That bug is now squashed. Give it another try now. Follow the instructions I wrote previously to clear out the old data and view the logs to see it in action.I've taken logs out of docker logging for now as it was annoying to view in unraids web popup. Its my intent to make a variable that can be set to switch the logging to docker logs on/off.... Quote Link to comment

Pappy
I first created the LANCACHE folder manually with the following settings: Then I installed the LANCACHE docker and mapped the path to this folder: Everything was alright. Once 50% of disk 6 is full, UNRAID started saving to disk 7. Standard UNRAID behavior Redistributing data. I will download older games from Disc 6 and the LANCACHE dock will not look there and will start downloading new data to Disc 7. Quote Link to comment
nick.longworth
Just this afternoon I have tested steam and downloaded destiny 2, doom, and a few others. After they downloaded I uninstalled and reinstalled and it pulled from cache and maxed out my current 1Gbe network connection. Quote Link to comment
Pappy
The problem will be the division of a folder on two disks. I have 270 games on Steam, 30 games on Origin, 20 games on UPlay etc. That's why I need 4 TB - 8TB because I only have to download 20 MBit / s. Praise developers and community The problem started in the middle of my downloaded games. From storing to the second disk. Obviously, saving a folder to only one disk would help. If the developer had no idea Quote Link to comment

I had identical network speeds of just under half of my 1Gbe network (local & uplink) during a new install and unchanged on uninstall/reinstall. Thus why I'm trying to see if there's a way to otherwise verify a cache hit/miss. 1 Quote Link to comment
jbartlett
There's a script inside the docker itself that tests if the cache is working. Open up a container terminal and type in: ./cache_test.sh Technically, it only works once. root@f38521741aa9:/scripts# ./cache_test.sh % Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Time Time Current Dload Upload Total Spent Left Speed 100 7620 100 7620 0 0 17046 0 --:--:-- --:--:-- --:--:-- 17046 % Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Time Time Current Dload Upload Total Spent Left Speed 100 7620 100 7620 0 0 7441k 0 --:--:-- --:--:-- --:--:-- 7441k Succesfully Cached Quote Link to comment

nick.longworth
Mover ran last night and moved lancache off my SSD cache and to my spiny disk array which is how I had things setup. Lancache appears to be working still but speed is horrendous. Only getting 20MB/s with high CPU usage when trying to pull data. At these speeds it will be much faster to just DL from internet. I am moving lancache back over to my SSD cache and will retest. I knew speeds would be slower than pulling from SSD but I was not expecting that sort of drop off. Quote Link to comment
Pappy
I moved everything from disk 7 to disk 6 and set the LANCACHE folder only to disk 6. LANCACHE ignores older games (downloaded 2-3 weeks ago) and downloads them again, including saving. Maybe this was caused by an update to LANCACHE if it doesn't see older files? It's better to delete everything and start over. Quote Link to comment

LANCACHE is a backup for me, including updates without work. It also depends on the speed of the disk in the computer where we install the game. SSDs are always better for small files. All you superior people with your fast internet. The reason I set this up was because I get massive speed boosts on the second PC downloading the cached files. 20MB/s us lightning fast for me 1 Quote Link to comment
nick.longworth
Sorry. Didn't mean to complain about my blessings. 😏 I am fortunate to have access to fiber and currently get 500/500 but my gaming PC has smaller Nvme storage so was looking for quick way to swap installed games if I need to. My unraid cache is raid 0 850 evos and I have 1TB total there so I will just keep the lancache on the unraid cache array. SSD to Nvme is currently bottle necked by my network. I know its a minor issue to "wait" on 500mbs downloads. Thanks for the assistance and work on this docker. Quote Link to comment
