unRAID on Dell poeredge T140

Featured Replies

I have a T140 with 4 HDD's and 2 X 240gb M2 installed on a BOSS card. I have tried installing unraid to no effect. Installing Windows was a breeze but I cannot get unRaid to work. Can someone give me step by step instructions please if possible? The server has the H330 perc controller installed.

How have you tried to install Unraid?

And the wiki link from that page:

https://wiki.unraid.net/UnRAID_6/Getting_Started

If that doesn't do it for you then you need to tell us in more detail exactly what problem you are having.

Hi, many thanks for the reply. I have followed the steps provided but, when I insert the usb in the server , it always comes up with boot failed. The server is set to boot via UEFI not bios. The server won't let me set raid settings for Linux just Windows. I want the is to be booted via the BOSS card and not the usb.

Not entirely clear to me what you are trying to do here:

You must boot Unraid from a USB flash drive. USB2 port is more reliable than USB3 for booting.

And Unraid is not RAID. You don't want any RAID settings.

I want to install unraid on the BOSS card . Ex: Windows server is on BOSS card and any additional storage to be stored on the HDD's. I would like a similar setup. Is this possible?

The Unraid OS is actually installed into RAM from the archives on the boot flash, and it runs completely in RAM. The USB flash drive GUID is associated with the Unraid license. In addition to the OS archives stored on flash, settings you make in the Unraid webUI are stored to that boot flash drive so they can be applied at boot.

The instructions I already linked are exactly what you have to do. There is no other way to install Unraid.

You boot from the USB flash drive. There is no installation to do except the preparation of the flash drive as explained in those steps you say you followed.

Excellent!! All set up thanks. Did a wipe of the server, installed firmware updates from Dell and, didn’t set up raid via perc . . . Installed the USB with unRAID in the internal USB slot and bingo!! Everything is working. Thanks for your help.
