October 17, 201015 yr Hello Guys, I've been struggling with this issue for a solid week now and really need some help. I have a User Share "/mnt/user/music" configured with Export Read/Write and "joe" set as a valid user. I am able to mount the share via a Mac client successfully (with the same user "Joe" and password), listing the contents of this user share in the terminal yeilds the following: drwx------ 1 joe staff 16384 Sep 21 16:25 Album Artwork drwx------ 1 joe staff 16384 Oct 11 17:29 Mobile Applications drwx------ 1 joe staff 16384 Sep 21 16:25 Previous iTunes Libraries -rwx------ 1 joe staff 3639643 Oct 17 12:30 iTunes Library -rwx------ 1 joe staff 12288 Oct 13 14:08 iTunes Library Extras.itdb -rwx------ 1 joe staff 32768 Nov 21 2008 iTunes Library Genius.itdb -rwx------ 1 joe staff 17020599 Oct 11 17:29 iTunes Library.xml drwx------ 1 joe staff 16384 Oct 7 13:44 iTunes Music -rwx------ 1 joe staff 437714 Nov 11 2007 iTunes Music Library.xml -rwx------ 1 joe staff 8 Oct 13 14:08 sentinel On the Mac side I am able to tell iTunes to choose a library while pressing the Option key and clicking the iTunes icon. When I browse the mounted share I cannot select the iTunes Library file as it is grayed out. Also instead of the iTunes icon, the file now has a different icon: the black exec icon for the Mac. I have not altered the default samba configuration file and should be stock as of unraid 4.5.6. I tried playing around with the xattr (extended attributes) of the library file as I noticed the local one on the Mac had the attribute @ flag set: On a local itunes library attr iTunes\ Library com.apple.FinderInfo -rw-r--r--@ 1 joe staff 3672 Oct 16 15:48 iTunes Library -rw-r--r-- 1 joe staff 12288 Oct 17 12:43 iTunes Library Extras.itdb -rw-r--r-- 1 joe staff 32768 Oct 16 15:47 iTunes Library Genius.itdb drwxr-xr-x 4 joe staff 136 Oct 16 15:48 iTunes Media -rw-r--r--@ 1 joe staff 11150 Oct 16 15:48 iTunes Music Library.xml -rw-r--r--@ 1 joe staff 8 Oct 17 12:43 sentinel But this does not alter the library file on the user share. I then downloaded the "Quick Change" Mac app, and changed the type of the file to "hkdb" and the creator of the file to "hook". This made the file non-gray for a short while then reverted back.. I'm at a loss. I forgot to mention, that I did run the following on all my disks to fix the xbmc problem that I was experiencing where xbmc would not see certain files: find /mnt/diskX -type d -exec chmod 0777 {} \; find /mnt/diskX -type f -exec chmod 0666 {} \; Not sure if this had something to do about it. Any help would be truly appreciated. Thanks.
October 17, 201015 yr If you are using samba the permissions don't matter. You should put only the media files on unRAID, i.e. iTunes Music, all other files from the library must be on your local HFS+ formatted disk. You connect iTunes Music to the samba share of unRAID either by making a link to it, or configuring a digfferent location for the media files in the iTunes Library Settings.
October 17, 201015 yr Author starcat, Thanks for the suggestion, I thought I'd be safe with dumping the whole iTunes folder on the server.
October 17, 201015 yr No, put only the iTunes Media folder to unRAID, all others local. Then link iTunes Media from local to the unRAID share (or change the library path in the Settings). No other changes are required.
October 17, 201015 yr Author Your suggestion worked well. I kept the "iTunes Media" and "Mobile Applications" (itunes 10.0.1) folders on the server and copied the other files locally. Then I made the change in the advance settings to point to the media folder on the server, I just wasn't sure about the "Mobile Applications" folder as there was no similar option for the directory location for that. I kept that folder on the server as well and iTunes was able to locate it without problems. Thanks again.
