Pfsense Box Recommendations?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Currently  running a Asus RT-AC5300 and I want to switch over to a Pfsense box for a router. Needs to have  Wifi.  Any recommendations?

Thanks

I use the sg-3100. Not cheap but works great with VPN throughput at Gb speeds. Also, since it’s made by Netgate, all pfSense updates have been tested on this hardware prior to release.

While not impossible, those two don't particularly go together. If you are concerned enough about your router to want pfsense, you normally care enough about your wifi signal to use real wifi hardware like unifi or some other commercial grade stand alone radios.

Typically the logical physical place to put your router isn't a great spot for wifi, so choosing a wifi solution that is POE to remove the requirement of local power and can be mounted in the ceiling or high on a wall is best for good signal coverage.

I agree. You can get really good AP’s at fairly reasonable prices and as WiFi technology advances you won’t have to purchase a new router to take advantage of new protocols.
