May 15, 20197 yr Hi, Currently running a Asus RT-AC5300 and I want to switch over to a Pfsense box for a router. Needs to have Wifi. Any recommendations? Thanks
May 15, 20197 yr I use the sg-3100. Not cheap but works great with VPN throughput at Gb speeds. Also, since it’s made by Netgate, all pfSense updates have been tested on this hardware prior to release.

If you are concerned enough about your router to want pfsense, you normally care enough about your wifi signal to use real wifi hardware like unifi or some other commercial grade stand alone radios. Typically the logical physical place to put your router isn't a great spot for wifi, so choosing a wifi solution that is POE to remove the requirement of local power and can be mounted in the ceiling or high on a wall is best for good signal coverage.
