October 19, 201015 yr Hi. I been reading the forums for a while trying to figure out about the user shares and split lvl. I recently build my unraid Box and im almost done with all the network problems and preclear scripts, so it’s time to get in to user shares and data move. Im not sure if I understand this right but im interested in use my user share with Split level 0. So far I Have 2 data Disk and I am going to be using the following folder structure: Disk1 Photography (User Share) Portafolio Behind the Scenes Several Clients / 1 folder per client Boudoir Several Clients / 1 folder per client Family Sessions Several Clients / 1 folder per client Weddings Several Clients / 1 folder per client Sessions Several Clients / 1 folder per client Albums Several Clients / 1 folder per client Inspiration Several folders / hundred pics per folder DM Photography Several folders / subfolders Video Several clients / 1 folder per client Every client folder has between 5 and 10 sub folders and between 500 and 5000 pictures each. If I create all this structure in the disk Share and after that I set up the Photography Share with Split level 0, every time that I create a new folder or subfolder this new folder is not going to split across the disks & is going to be created according the allocation method in any disc (included in the share) that already has the “parent” folder. So just to clarify. If I have this: Disk 1 Photography (User Share) Wedding Claire Disk 2 Photography (User Share) Wedding Claire If I create a folder under Claire, this one would be placed according the allocation method (in disk 1 or 2), and if this folder path is only present in one disc, the new folder would be place in just that disk (avoiding create the entire folder path to another disc) Does al this make sense to anyone of you guys?? I think that I did get it right. I’m I wrong? Would this work with Split level 0 for the Share?? Thank in advance, sorry for the super long post.
October 20, 201015 yr I have not tried it but that is what level 0 is supposed to do so you have the right idea. The root folder structure has to exist on a disk for unRAID to put new files and directories into it. If you took Claire off of disk2 in your example then any directory or file you put under Claire would stay on disk1. Peter
October 20, 201015 yr Author I created the user shares and i created all the folders trugh disk shares. I star moving some data (smll files) just to chek the allocation method / path and everything seems to be working normal, as expected. I do have one question dough. I did enable the share security and when Igo to the User tab to create a new User i wrote the User and password, add and the nothing hapens. The page kind of refresh but there is no new user added. Any idea if I miss something in the config?? Thx
