May 29, 20197 yr Hello, Currently running 2 marvel based controllers and this isn't recommended for unraid and I am seeing some issues. Need help to find the best card for me to switch over to. I am using a norco 4020 knock off chasi. So that is 5 backplanes 8087 sff. 4 of them are going into my 2 marvel cards and 1 is going to a breakout cable and into the sataports on the mobo. (Total 20 hdds) Now, I would like to replace both the marvels with 1 LSI controller and if possible connect all 5 backplanes to it, or at least 4 of them. I am also using several 10TB hdds to the controller needs to be able to handle that size and larger in the future. What LSI card is best for me? Br Uroth
May 29, 20197 yr You can use a 16 port LSI like the 9201-16i or the newer 9300-16i (note that this one uses different cables), alternatively you can use an 8 port HBA + a SAS expander.
May 29, 20197 yr Author Okay, looking at this one then: https://www.ebay.com/itm/LSI00244-9201-16i-PCI-Express-2-0-x8-SATA-SAS-Host-Bus-Adapter-Card/272695245759 the 9300 is a bit pricey but sure, more future proof. But I don't see my needs for it.
