i just built my first unraid server, and started my first vm

im trying to activate windows as my previous PC, which i was using as a server via storage spaces

i signed into my microsoft account on the old one, and then the new one, but it wouldnt let me activate. i called them but without the key they cant do anything

 

it occurs to me that the easiest way to get it to work is to pop the hard drive with windows installed out of my old pc, put it into the unraid server, and run it as the boot device through a vm. windows will get all weird about it, but at least i can tell it my hardware changed and itll activate using the hardware it sees. then when i activate my new vm, itll be the same hardware profile

 

does this make sense?
