Upgrade parity disk, worried about disabled disk in array

Featured Replies

Hey all,

First of all thank you for taking the time to help me out.  I currently have multiple drives in my array but one of them has been disabled by unraid.  My parity is 4tb and the disabled drive is 4tb.  I picked up a 10tb drive that I'm going to install and understand that it needs to be the parity drive.  My plan is to use the 4tb parity to replace the disabled drive.  I wasn't sure if this would cause any issues since the current parity drive is being used for the disabled drive?

Also on a separate note I'm not sure what has caused the disabled drive to become disabled.  The SMART says the drive is healthy but it is throwing some errors.  When I run a short or extended it fails after a few seconds with the following error.

Num Test_Description Status Remaining LifeTime(hours) LBA_of_first_error
# 1 Short offline Completed: read failure 90% 43505 75896
# 2 Short offline Completed: read failure 90% 43473 -
# 3 Extended offline Completed: read failure 90% 43473 -
# 4 Short offline Completed: read failure 90% 43472 -

I've also attached the full report as well.

Again, thanks in advance.  Love the unraid system and the community here.

Jon

SMART overall health is pretty useless, disk has pending sectors and more importantly it's failing a SMART test, so the disk is failing and needs to be replaced.

What you want is the parity swap procedure.
