Upgrade to i5-9400

Featured Replies

Hello :)
My current main unraid server (mostly used for plex, fileserver and a minecraft VM) is running a 1st gen i7 (9xx) and it is soon time for an upgrade.
Im wondering about an i5-9400, anyone tried that cpu here?

I'm not sure, but I think there still are some driver issues with the 9th gen processors... which is why I went with an i7-8700, just to be on the safe side.

Is that not for the iGPU support on 9th gen?

The iGPU won't be available for QuickSync on unRAID until they move to a linux kernel 4.20 or newer. I seem to remember them saying that 6.8 will be on a kernel in the 5.xx.

But the rest of the cpu will work just fine?

yes, I think it should.

isvein, Did you end up getting the i5-9400? Thinking about it as well and waiting for the updated kernel to come around. I direct stream my plex server for now but have plans to remote stream in the future. Why not go for the extra cores at the same price as the 8350k? I don't plan to do more that 2-3 streams at a time with lidarr sonarr, and radarr dockers with plex or move to emby.
