June 1, 20197 yr Looking for a SAS card for a Supermicro server I got a bargain on. It came with a LSI MegaRAID 9260-4i 512MB but my search found that it doesn't do JBOD. So I am looking for recommendations for a good alternative. Possibly an older card that won't break the bank. Would like it to support larger drives though maybe up to at least 6tb.
June 1, 20197 yr Any LSI with a SAS2008/2308/3008 chipset in IT mode, e.g., 9201-8i, 9211-8i, 9207-8i, 9300-8i, etc and clones, like the Dell H200/H310 and IBM M1015, these latter ones need to be crossflashed.

I would get a 9207+ series, it uses PCIe 3.0 ... and in some cases cheaper than the classic 9211-8i which is PCIe 2.0. For hard drives it doesn't matter, but helps if you have SSD caches on the controller. I picked up my controller from the seller qbtl on eBay... his cards seem to be fine, been using a 9211-8i from that seller for about 3 years no issues and just ordered a 9207-8i (waiting for it to come in the mail).
