UNRAID 6.7.0 - Mover not running

Hello,

It appears that one of my disks filled up, which is also interesting as all my shares are set to high water.  Anyways, when I invoke the mover, nothing seems to move.  I does show that disk4 is unable to be written to because it's full.  Any help please?

In any contention between the Allocation method and the Split Level for choosing a drive split level always wins.   You did not give the path of the file(s) in question so we can see if this likely to be the cause of your problem

Assuming that split level settings is the issue, you therefore need to either manually move some files to another drive to free up space or relax the split level criteria (or both).

For Media share, attached is 973282828_2019-06-11092215AMbraveTowerBrowse_-_Brave.thumb.png.c02cef9ca82eb51c416ed27ade7f87d3.pngthe folder structure example:

For TV:

Media >

 TV >

  Series >

   Season # >

    Episode

For Movies in that share for example:

Media >

 Movies >

  MOVIENAME >

   MOVIE.mp5

I think you're right, it's probably due to split level conflicts with movies and TV's different data structure.  Best resolution path?

With that structure TV and Movies can exist on multiple disks with your Split Level settings.   However once a folder has been created inside TV or Movies then its contents will be constrained to being on the disk where that folder is first created.

You need to decide how you want to allow Unraid to spread files across disks to decide if the current split level settings are appropriate.  There is no 'right' answer that applies to everyone as it is a personal preference.   Many people use different shares for movies and tv just so they can give them different split level settings.   As an example I personally constrain movies and tv to be on completely different dirk drives.  With your current settings for tv a series is always constrained to the disk where the series folder is first created - is that what you want?

I would say at this point no - since it's causing the disks to fill up :)

You could simply move some complete series to another drive to free up space on the problem drive and keep your current settings.   You really want a strategy in mind so you know how you want to handle things going forward.

Best way to move a series to another drive?

No 'best' way - just lots of options so choose one you are comfortable with.  E.g.:

  • Command line via 'cp' or 'rsync' command
  • Command line via Midnight Commander ('mc' command)  for pseudo graphical interface
  • GUI based File Manager by installing a docker container like Krusader or Dolphin
  • Across the network using your PC/Mac. This tends to be the slowest but is the one most people are most familiar with.

The only rule to remember is never mix a User Share and a Disk share in the same command as this can lead to data loss.   Disk->Disk or User Share->User Share are always fine.

Anecdotal experience from my end:

  • Don't use mc / docker (Krusader / Dolphin) for large files. For dont-know-what reasons, mc / docker caused heavy fragmentation on my disks (xfs file system) but cp / rsync doesn't.
  • Don't use docker (Krusader / Dolphin) for a large amount of data. For dont-know-what reasons, the transfer speed slowed down after about an hour or so and then grinded to a (virtual) halt (i.e. speed like 10MB/s) but cp / rsync doesn't.

Hence SSH / console i.e. command line is best. Across the network is second since it's usually simplest.
