October 22, 201015 yr My 'built from leftovers' server is having a few problems (see threads elsewhere, but basically slow sync and crashing on writes), so based on the assumptionyou can't all be wrong, and the unRaid is actually good stuff, I'm assuming its my hardware that's the issue, specifically compatibility, as the actual parts are brand new drives, and the remains of a Windows server that ran for two years before early retirement. The memory Memtest's fine, and the drives (1.5Tbyte Samsung) show no errors. Specifically I want to replace the motherboard with a new one, ideally 6 SATA (I will only need this many drives), and ideally socket 775 (I have a half reasonable CPU). The Supermicro board SUPERMICRO MBD-C2SEE-O seems ideal and widely recommended, but completely unavailable here in the UK (unless you know better??) Is there an equivalent Asus / Gigabyte that is a 'known good' that people are using that would meet my requirements above, that I can purchase easily online here in UK (OK, I can check that bit) ? My trawl of the forums seems to suggest that Intel based NIC is the key recommendation, but then the Supermicro board has a Realtek! Suggestions please people! (Thanks in advance)
October 22, 201015 yr I had no joy trying to source this in the UK, I purchased this board on ebay "Asus P5LD2-VM motherboard with Intel P4 540 J CPU" but it only had one slot that I could use for my sata cards but it has been great for testing. I have ddr2 ram and two 775 psu's so my choice was limited as I wanted to use those components. I have now got a "MSI P6N Diamond Motherboard" also purchased on ebay for 23.00 pounds! The bigest problem I have had sourcing a suitable board is one with two slots that can take 2 Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8's as they require two pci-e x4 slots or above. In the UK it seems to be the norm that if you require two slots like that then you must be a gamer or the like!! And the board has all the other bells and whisltes except on board graphics. Have a peek and the mobo compatability section as there is a lot of mobo's in there with links to forum posts etc.
