Hammerx
I'm curious if we really need to run badblocks as long as smartctl catches pending sectors and reallocate them when accessed. Why do we specifically need to run badblocks? Quote Link to comment
JonathanM
If you regularly run parity checks and have notifications set up properly, there really is no need to run badblocks. Where are you seeing this advice to run badblocks on a regular basis? Quote Link to comment

Where are you seeing this advice to run badblocks on a regular basis? Although I have tens of HDDs, I've never tried RAID setup. Every HDD is handled as a single drive. Each HDD has its own duplicate one anyway. I sometimes see filesystem error together with smartctl pending sector number increased. Then I do e2fsck and recover lost files by rsync from the backup HDD. Can you advise on my situation? Should I go with RAID in the future? Edited June 18, 2019 by Hammerx Quote Link to comment
trurl
This is the Unraid forum. Unraid is not RAID. Do you have an Unraid system? Quote Link to comment
