October 22, 201015 yr Hey there everyone, I'm finally getting around to building my server. Some earlier discussion about part compatibility and such was had in an earlier thread (http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=6068.0). It has been simultaneously easier and harder than I expected. Working in the case is very easy, but I'm running into some issues due to inexperience. Here's my finished parts list: Case - Lian Li PC-A17 Mobo - ASUS M4A785-M Backplane - Icy Dock 5-in-3 (1 for now, more as I add more drives) PSU - Corsair TX650W RAM - Kingston 2GB Proc - AMD Sempron 140 What I've done so far: - Installed the processor/RAM into the motherboard - Installed the motherboard, PSU, backplane into the case - Connected case USB/Reset/PW buttons - Connected Mobo to PSU - Connected Backplane to PSU using Molex connectors My questions are the following - 1. The chassis fans have 'optional' molex connectors. Should I use these (which i'm guessing would allow them to simply spin at a constant rate) or remove them and hook one up to the "Chassis Fan" port on the motherboard? - If I do hook one up, I have a top fan and a rear fan, which one should be hooked up to the Mobo and which should be hooked up to the PSU? 2. The PSU comes with 2 HDD power cables with 4 connectors each, and 2 Molex Cables with 4 connectors each. The icy dock uses 3 Molex connectors. As I add additional 5-in-3s (2 more) I'm going to run out of cabling. Are there either converters I need to buy to somehow change the HDD power cables to molex? Or are there extenders with additional ports for my molex connections? 3. The icy dock has S-OUT and HDD FAIL IN connectors. I'm assuming these are optional and can be hooked up to hardware controllers? Is it safe to use without? Thanks for any help you can give. Greg
October 22, 201015 yr Most motherboards have multiple fan headers on them. Just plug in the fans to those, for the most part they will work fine. If you see high temps then you can investigate later.

October 22, 201015 yr Author Molex power splitters another example or HDD Power to Molex Adapter Thanks for the links. I think the HDD power -> Molex are actually going in the wrong direction for what I need, but I should be able to use the Molex splitters.
October 22, 201015 yr Never used them, but these look good. October 24, 201015 yr Author Those look like they'll probably do the trick. Thanks! In other news -- it works! It took some fiddling to get it to boot from the USB flashdrive but I've successfully done my first parity check and began copying data to the array
