June 19, 20197 yr Hi folks. Need some advice, as I am probably overthinking this. I run Plex and Fancybits' ChannelsDVR docker apps to record over-the-air TV to a separate internal drive in Unassigned Devices. I had been using a 4TB WD AV-GP since Feb 2014, but it died during the Stanley Cup Final, literally during Game 7, LOL. And they don't make those anymore. I also rip my blu-rays to the same drive, but pretty rarely. Then I move the movie files to the array. Any recommendations? I'd like at least a 4TB. I've currently replaced it with a 4TB WD Red because I had two of those lying around, but I'm not sure if that's a good use for a Red drive, as they're better suited to being part of an array. (My array is 8 x 4TB Reds). I'm more partial to WD than Seagate, but I have both, and they all die eventually. I'm not interested in shucking externals, but I respect those who do. Thanks for any help. Edited June 21, 20197 yr by stor44 Question is answered.
June 19, 20197 yr If you're not recording 24/7 then pretty much any drive will do. I use a WD Purple drive for the security DVR that's recording 24/7/365 - it's been living in my attic for 3 years with summer temps over 100F and it's still going
June 21, 20197 yr Author Thanks Michael, yeah I was looking at the Purples, that's probably the way to go. Cheers!
