Will adding GPU help my Plex Server

Featured Replies

I am pretty happy with the performance of my plex server but I always like to push a little for a little better as I am running older hardware. Spec in SIG

Question is will adding something like a GTX 1050 Mini make any real difference to overall performance outside of LAN.

I only have 6 users but would really like to be able to transcode or even direct play 4k if possible.

Any suggestions are welcome, GPU must fit 2u server case. I do not game at all so even the 1050 might be overkill.

I believe you will need to run the custom-built Unraid with Nvidia drivers (search for the plugin + forum post) + need Plex Pass + some tinkering to make it work.

Also need a more expensive GPU to support more than 2 concurrent streams.

You might want to consider if simply upgrading your CPU may be more economical.
