Okay sorry to make another topic so soon but i am finalizing my my build and I'm going into over drive here.

I currently have a 10/100 Router (An old Linksys WRT54G). I currently have a gaming PC with a GigE onboard and my new Unraid will have GigE onboard as well (duh).

 

I'm a bit weak when it comes to networking so i'll ask you experts here. Do i need a Gigabit router, Gigabit switch, or both to get max write speeds?

Answers, as well as suggestion for hardware (on a budget :P) would be great.

    All you need is a gigabyte switch.  Keep your existing router to connect to the outside world.  Connect one port of the gigabyte switch to your existing router, and the other high speed ports on the gigabyte outer to those devices on your lan that have gigabyte network interfaces.
