Directory Modified Time incorrect via SMB Share

Featured Replies

ALL:

I used rsync to copy some files over from a FreeNAS server to my UnRAID server.  Once done, I noticed the directory timestamps were incorrect on the UnRAID share.  I tried to change them via the 'touch' command -- no change.  I tried to change them via a Windows program called 'Directory Report' -- no change.  I stopped the array and restarted it, still no change.

I then decided to look at the directory on the individual disk and noticed that it's info looked correct (stat command).

Why can't I change the directory modified (mtime) time of a directory via SMB.  I can do this on FreeNAS.  I have scoured the Internet and have looked through all the UnRAID settings - can't find anything.  Also, why is the info different between the share mount and the actual disk info?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Have you checked that the timezone is set correctly on the Unraid server?

Hello itimpi,

Thank you for your response.  Yes, timezone is set correctly for the server.  Again, the information appears to be correct on the individual data disk, just not on the Samba (SMB) share.  I'm wondering if something more needs to be set/configured with the share settings, since most of the stuff is out of the box default.

is it just via samba?  just curious if it shows correct or not via nfs/afp/sftp...  I'm wondering if its just a samba issue

I'm running 6.7.1 and mine appears to be correct via smb shares I think.  I don't have Windows to test from, but connecting from Plasma in Fedora 30 it all looks to be correct date and times... and I haven't screwed around with the smb settings at all other than enabling the apple thing (Enhanced macOS interoperability) for my Wife's macbook.  Maybe try turning that on?

Hi Abzstrak,

I am only running SMB at the time.  My issue is primarily focused on Windows clients connecting to the UnRAID box.  I have thought about setting up an NFS client on Windows 10 and also setting up the corresponding NFS share on UnRAID, but haven't messed with that yet.

I also ran the Docker permissions settings change and still same results.  I am unable to change the directory on the Share.  However, like I stated previously, the changes do make it to the actual folder structure where the files are physically stored (individual disks).

I will also try the macOS setting and see if it helps.

Thanks for the reply.  Still searching.....

Abzstrak,

I took your advice and enabled the macOS setting in SMB settings.  Doing some testing, it seems to be working and retaining the original folder dates once it's copied over to UnRAID.  I'll keep testing, but the results so far look promising.

Thank you!

Lol, awesome... Totally lucky guess as I have one Mac and everything else is linux, no windows.  Glad it seems to be working.

Just an fyi, I do understand that enabling that can have some issues for windows client, I've never paid any attention to them as they don't affect me, but something to watch out for or research.
