October 24, 201015 yr Ok ... I know that unRAID can't handle this many drives ... but check out this case ... :o  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811165317  Â
October 24, 201015 yr for that kind of money i can buy a lot of Norco cases. great looking case, but a little too much for me.
October 24, 201015 yr Author for that kind of money i can buy a lot of Norco cases. great looking case, but a little too much for me. Â Agreed ... I'm just astounded by the sheer size of the thing. I've never seen a case quite like that before. Â Â

October 24, 201015 yr it would be fun to build, but i can't imagine the power consumption. and not only that, but unraid doesn't support that many drives. i would much rather see support for 3TB drives before support for additional drives. I really don't even need 3TB support yet, i still have 400 and 500GB drives in my system.

October 24, 201015 yr 3 fans? Your hard drives would fry. It's impressive to look at, but who would buy it? For that kind of money, I would think you could get something with much better use of space. They make 4U 60 drive JBOD enclosures (granted, maybe not for $4,199).  It would be fun to build though, and it would keep you warm in the winterÂ
October 25, 201015 yr Why would unraid need any special changes to handle 3 TB drives? Â There are actually two issues to overcome. First, these drives use advanced formatting, aka 4k sectors. Secondly, because unRAID is a 32 bit OS, it can't really handle a drive larger than about 2.2 TB.
October 25, 201015 yr Full of drives, I bet it would take two people to lift that thing. Even just a 15 or 20 drive server is quite heavy.
October 25, 201015 yr Full of drives, I bet it would take two people to lift that thing. Even just a 15 or 20 drive server is quite heavy. That's why it has those huge handles on the side. Personally I prefer the Mad Russian 64 drive server. After looking at the $4200 price tag for that behemoth I can see why the Mad Russian used plywood.
November 7, 201015 yr Try Handy Backup by Novosoft, it's reliable backup software solution. I have used several backup solutions for years, and I recommend Handy Backup.  http://www.handybackup.net - backup software http://www.remotedatabackup.net - online backup  of course!  SPAM?Â
November 8, 201015 yr I'd hate to see that thing perform a parity check if it was fully loaded. I wonder how long Joe L's Preclear script would take. LOL
