Unable to start array - HELP!

Featured Replies

EDIT: I was able to start the Array, but only by going to Tools->Page Map, and then clicking on "Array Operation". At that point I the "Start" button was enabled.

Hi,

I cannot start array because "START" button is grayed out and I don't know why.

I have 3HDD + 1SSD. 1 is parity, brand new, with 8TB. There are 2 data HDDs, which have data from Synology NAS. I backed up all my data on separate external HDD. 1SSD is on MoBo and has 500GB.

Here are the steps I did:

Added parity drive

Added HDD 1 (specified xfs - encrypted)

Added HDD 2 (specified xfs - encrypted)

Added 500GB cache (specified xfs - encrypted)

1, In MAIN setting, "START" button for starting array is grayed out. Why? How do I start array (I also don't see where I can initiate formatting of all 4 disks)

2. Where and at one point do I set encryption password? (while I could specify for each drive that xfs - encrypted as "File system type", there is no field for setting the actual password.

Help is appreciated.

Do you have an ad blocker on your browser? If so try disabling it. I had a similar issue a very long time ago and it turned out to be Adblock.

Can't speak for encrypted array since I don't use it.

There is a manual for Unraid.  You can find a link to on the bottom right of the GUI.

There are some videos on using Unraid encryption :  Here are links to two of them:

Personally, I think one should have to have an really, really great reason why to encrypt the data on an Unraid server.  This is perhaps the easiest way to lose access to all of your data with zero means of recovery.  There are other ways to prevent access to data without using encryption!  (You could make your shares Private and Hidden which would make it very difficult to anyone to get to them.)
