*SOLVED* Utilize second NIC for PC to UNRAID share

Featured Replies

Hi there everyone!

I am looking to setup a second NIC. However it is only for transfers from my main PC to my Unraid share. The reason is that my on board NIC has max speeds of 1 GB, while my PCI-E card on both the server and Main PC is 10GB. The purpose of this is to increase transfer speeds for large amounts of files, by going from Main PC to Unraid share (Utilzing SSDs on both).

Not sure how to setup a second NIC and transfer files over a Link Local Connection. Any recommendations or help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Set a manual IP with a different network address on both NICs, then to force your main PC to use the 10GbE NIC either connect to server by IP or edit the Windows hosts file and set that IP for the server name.

To be clearer that's a different network address, not a different host address, so if for example the 1GB lan is using 192.168.1.x then use 192.168.2.x for 10GbE.

Look up peer to peer networking on google or better yet youtube its a simple setup I did it with 2 mellanox 10GbE cards and mapped the share with the new ip I created
