Moving config to another PC/licence

Featured Replies

Hi all

Have spent the last six weeks playing with unraid and setting it up on my old i5760. Have replaced a few drives already and now want to put unraid on my newer i56600k so I can play with IOMMU.

I currently have Basic.

Can I simply buy another licence (Pro) thrn copy the files over from the Basic USB, then use that with the existing hard drives on the newer PC?

I would then use the original Basic licence on the older i5, while the Pro on the newer i5 with the physicalled moved drives.

Cheers all,

Yes

The config folder on flash contains your license and everything else about your configuration, including disk assignments. The license .key file can only be used with the specific flash drive it was registered with, but it can be used with any hardware. Many of us have moved our drives to new hardware.

Will moving the usb flash drive to a different chassis, but same motherboard - will it also recognise which disk drives are allocated for what purpose in the array?

What will be best practice before doing something like this?

thank you

As long  as the disk serial numbers present themselves in the same way then it 'just works'.

Good practice is to have a screenshot of your drive assignments just in case.

I don't see how it could even know it had been moved.

Thank you !
