Water Panther drives?

Featured Replies

Out of curiosity, anybody here used any of these Water Panther drives in an unraid setup, or even heard of them before?

Looking to replace my existing parity drive with a 12tb 7200rpm SAS drive, and was looking at what was available out there..

Never heard of them, also with no reviews I be a little weary.

According to their website, the drives are all from the big 3 OEMs (ie: Seagate, WD, ?)

Toshiba

So basically (according to their page), white label brand name drives.  I'll probably just go with an Seagate Exos ST12000NM0007 instead.  Just though with the price difference, someone here may have tried them out.

The kicker with companies like these is that so long as the specs on the drives match, they can sell you a drive from whatever manufacturer they choose
Whether that is Seagate, Toshiba, or if you're really I lucky, WD

That was what I was kind of worried about, not knowing who actually made them.  Could be anybody really.

I bought one to find out.  Got a Seagate.  They are refurb sold as new.  Stay away.

I bought few of their SSDs. They are refurbished but sold as new. The SMART table is cleared. They can't sell them under original brand as the reputable brand will track it down right away and they would risk a big legal trouble. That's why they sell under private label and much cheaper. The one I got were Toshiba beneath their label.
