IPMI Cards

Featured Replies

I missed out on buying a mobo with built-in IPMI during my build and I'm looking to find a way to add KVM over IP capability.  I saw a Supermicro AOC-LPIPMI-LANG (http://www.supermicro.com/products/accessories/addon/AOC-LPIPMI-LANG.cfm) that might fill that need, but I can't tell if this is only compatible with certain Supermicro cards, or even other mobos altogether.  Hell, I'm assuming it's PCI, since documentation is minimal.

Has anybody tried this card or have other IPMI-type of solution?

What is really more important is if you motherboard can support it.

From the little that I know, there has to be basic motherboard support.

This is usually the case for server class supermicro boards.

Please post your motherboard model as that is the key factor.

If you find your model on the supermicro site, if IPMI support is available, they will usually list it.

There is also a supermicro link that shows what boards are compatible with the addon cards.

Unfortunately I don't even have a Supermicro mobo.  I have an Asus M4A78L-M.  I admit I don't know much about IPMI type of technology.  I've only ever seen it on Dell DRAC and HP iLo.  In other words, really really expensive Enterprise class servers.  Bummer, I'd like to see a more affordable alternative (and universal) some day.
