HP Gen8 Dual Xeon for Plex

Featured Replies

Hello,

I looking for any option I can found to build a plex dedicated. I have a old portable PC to run a nextcloud server.

I though first a custom 2nd hand tower would be a good option with Nvidia GPU for hardware acceleration until I found this and seems to be a really good deal ?

HP server 8gen for 190€ :

2x CPU Intel Xeon E5-2450L (16 Coeurs / 32 Threads)
32Go RAM DDR3 ECC Registred (12x DIMM SLOTS 192Go Max.)
4x Bay 3.5" SATA 6Gbps
1x PCIe 3.0 x16 + 1xPCIe 3.0 x8
4x HP Ethernet Gigabit Quad Port 366i

What do you think ? I never had a server before because I allways worked with towers. Is it a good deal ? What do I need to check before buying it ? I allready have 6x 2TB HDD is there a way to add some bay to this server ?

Thought to buy this rack with it https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MXHFI6G is it a good choice ?

Thanks for reading and your help !

You need to provide an exact model number of the server.  I believe there are other users on here running unRAID on HP server, they can probably provide better feedback then I can. My only concern would be the RAID controller and whether it can do JBOD mode for unRAID.
