October 29, 201015 yr Currently I have a WD 7200RPM 1TB hard drive as my parity drive with two other 1TB hard drives 95% full in my server. I am in the market for a new Parity drive and since we cant use any 3TB hard drives in unRaid as yet I am looking for a good 2TB HD for my parity drive. I am open to suggestions. Please someone make a suggestion..
October 30, 201015 yr For pure speed, the Hitachi is probably best. If you're concerned over power consumption and/or heat, then a "green" drive like the WD Caviar Green or Seagate LP are better bets. The WD requires a jumper on pins 7-8 to work properly, and the Seagate might need a firmware upgrade (although how necessary it is is up for debate). Stay away from the Samsung F4 for right now.
October 30, 201015 yr Here is the link for the Hitachi: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145369 I use the same drive as my parity. If you are a little more price sensitive, You can use the WD or Seagate. You could also do a WD or Seagate now and then switch to a Hitachi later when you find a better deal.
