newoski
Hi, My tower currently has a motherboard with dual 1GB ethernet ports. My latest computer build features a 2.5GB LAN port, as well as a traditional 1GB port. Is there anything I can do to take advantage of the 2.5GB speed between the Tower (dual 1GB ports) and the computer's 2.5GB LAN port? I know there are older threads on this, but I'm curious with the faster mobos coming out now, if I need to upgrade the server motherboard to take advantage, or if I could share the load and double output via the dual 1GB ports on my Tower, when sharing content with this specific computer? Thanks! Quote Link to comment
Guest
From what I know you cannot take advantage of the 2.5Gb speed without a switch that is compatable with that standard and I would suggest this inexpensive switch which is usually sold on ebay for 100-150 Pounds Ebay Link and it fetures 8 2.5G ports and 2 10G sfp+ ports which you can connect to your nas using a cheap sfp+ nic, however if this is not an option for you you could try connecting both the lan from your pc to your switch and both lan from the server to the switch and setup LAG to allow you to utilise a 2gbps connections.
