October 30, 201015 yr Hi all-- Wasn't sure whether to put this in the preclear thread or not so I figured a separate thread would be appropriate. I followed the preclear instructions and wiki entry about configuration and here's where I'm stuck: I ran preclear against all 6 initial drives (started yesterday morning) and they all reported back as being ready. I then gracefully shut down via the portal page, removed my internal USB flash drive an installed the key that Tom sent me. Turned the server back on and it was immediately online etc. The Pro license took because I could now see 20 slots plus a parity and cache slot. I assigned my parity and my other 5 drives and then returned to the main screen. Clicked on Start array and it started without problem. The 5 drives listed as unformatted so I checked the "OK its what I want to do" button clicked on "Format" and now I've lost all connectivity to the server. I can't ping it at all. I used IPMI on the other IP and I can see the following (in the attached file). Nothing seems to be happening and 10 min later I still can't ping. Any ideas? Was my preclear for not?
October 30, 201015 yr That looks like an out of memory problem. The formatting of all the drives at once could have cause the problem but I am just guessing at that. Since you posted this an hour ago I am going to assume that you have done something else. If not, you are going to have to hard restart the server. Once it is up figure out what is going on and assign one drive at a time to the array. Format each drive as you add it and then add the parity.
October 30, 201015 yr If you can post more that will be more clear because what you posted is part of a Call Trace that usually meant "Houston, we have problems". Since you can not ping system, you might want to connect monitor/keyboard/mouse to system for debugging layer2/3 functions. if you can go into system through IPMI link, then you might want to do "ethtool" and "ifconfig" commands to checkout both layer2 and layer 3 setup and pull out whole syslog whatever happen syslog might have information there.
October 30, 201015 yr You can test if the pre-clear processes finished their clearing step by typing preclear_disk.sh -t /dev/sdX (where sdX = each of your disks sda, sdb, sdc, etc...) The test only takes a second or two... slightly more if it first has to spin up the drive.
October 30, 201015 yr Author Thanks all for the help. I ended up doing a hard reset and Unraid came back up successfully. Added just the data drives and then formatted them successfully. Then added the parity and it worked. Everything seems to be fine at this point. Thanks again for the responses!
