thesmackdown
Hi all, I added a new drive about a month ago and since then I have been having one of my older drives dropping out of the array and throwing errors. I just finished reenabling it and rebuilding and it disabled again during a SMART long test. I was suspecting the drive was ok and maybe a cabling issue when I must have bumped the cable to the new drive. The original drive is still disabled and now both are saying unmountable. Next steps? Thanks! Evan media-diagnostics-20190731-1855.zip Link to comment

Disk7 unmountable. Is it the new disk? Was it ever formatted? Post a screenshot of Main - Array Devices. Link to comment

The SMART long test is internal to the drive so should not be affected by cabling. If it failed (rather than being aborted) then the drive is definitely suspect! As a general rule passing a SMART test is not a definitive test of drive health, but failures almost always are. Link to comment
trurl
Since we haven't had a reply, I just want to stress that you shouldn't do anything at all without further advice. Just trying things without knowing what to do is likely going to result in data loss. Do you have backups? Link to comment
thesmackdown
I understand. Something else has happened and I can't get the server to boot. I am planning on getting a monitor to see what is going on today. Link to comment
jbartlett
I'd recommend checking out the DiskSpeed docker in my sig once you're back up & running. It can help identify drives that are acting suspect but still reporting All Clear on the SMART report. A standard drive benchmark checking every 10% of the drive as a baseline, every 1% if you want to get down to the nitty gritty. Link to comment
JorgeB
Disk7 looks like a cable problem and disk4 isn't mounting because of the errors on disk7, since it's being emulated. Power down, replace cables on disk7, power back on, check if both disks mount now, if not post new diags. Link to comment
thesmackdown
Looks like Disk 7 "fixed" itself. Now how do I best solve the disk 4 problem? Link to comment

jbartlett
That's a bit bumpy. Drives tend to gradually drop in speed. Seagate drives also tend to have a dip at the start of the drive. I'd compare it's benchmark with the same model drives in your system. Link to comment
JorgeB
Since disk4 isn't being used Unraid isn't turning SMART on, you'll need to do it manually and then grab and post a SMART report, first: smartctl -s on /dev/sdh then post the output of: smartctl -x /dev/sdh Link to comment
