Current pending sectgor count 1 (new ssd)

Recommended Posts

Using Unraid 6.7.2. Hey guys, I picked up two new Crucial MX500 (2TB) ssd drives on Amazon Prime Day. one to replace my cache and the other to replace my unassigned Download drive. After installing them (prior to formatting) I saw the following "Warnings" in my dash - one for each drive:

Current pending sector count 1 (sdm)

I ran an extended SMART test which resulted in no errors. However, the SMART error log shows the following (for both drives):

Warning: ATA error count 0 inconsistent with error log pointer 4

ATA Error Count: 0
	CR = Command Register [HEX]
	FR = Features Register [HEX]
	SC = Sector Count Register [HEX]
	SN = Sector Number Register [HEX]
	CL = Cylinder Low Register [HEX]
	CH = Cylinder High Register [HEX]
	DH = Device/Head Register [HEX]
	DC = Device Command Register [HEX]
	ER = Error register [HEX]
	ST = Status register [HEX]
Powered_Up_Time is measured from power on, and printed as
DDd+hh:mm:SS.sss where DD=days, hh=hours, mm=minutes,
SS=sec, and sss=millisec. It "wraps" after 49.710 days.

Error -3 occurred at disk power-on lifetime: 0 hours (0 days + 0 hours)
  When the command that caused the error occurred, the device was in an unknown state.

  After command completion occurred, registers were:
  ER ST SC SN CL CH DH
  -- -- -- -- -- -- --
  00 ec 00 00 00 00 00

  Commands leading to the command that caused the error were:
  CR FR SC SN CL CH DH DC Powered_Up_Time Command/Feature_Name
  -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --  ----------------  --------------------
  ec 00 00 00 00 00 00 00      00:00:00.000  IDENTIFY DEVICE
  ec 00 00 00 00 00 00 00      00:00:00.000  IDENTIFY DEVICE
  ec 00 00 00 00 00 00 00      00:00:00.000  IDENTIFY DEVICE
  ec 00 00 00 00 00 00 00      00:00:00.000  IDENTIFY DEVICE
  c8 00 00 00 00 00 00 00      00:00:00.000  READ DMA

I've acknowledged the warning, but it seems to return every few days. I suspect it's just Unraid referring to the last error log (which happens to be the one above, and seems to have occurred at first power up). I don't believe both drives are bad... I suspect perhaps this is a general error upon a new drive install? Is there any way to clear the most recent SMART error log? Or perhaps any way to deal with this so it does not keep popping up in the dashboard?

This is a well-known issue with the MX500 and there are some threads in these forums going back over a year on this issue.  It is a Crucial firmware bug and they have never fixed it.

I have this same drive in a 500GB capacity.  The only way to "permanently" disable the warning is to disable unRAID tracking of SMART attribute 197 for those SSDs.

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried searching prior to posting but didn't see that particular thread. Good to know I'm not the only one with the problem. For now, I've disabled attribute 197.
