Looking for low-power, silent config

Featured Replies

Hello everyone!

I currently have a modest Synology DS216j with 2x 4TB drives (mirrored), that is almost silent. I use it as media server and for regular backups, so nothing computing intensive.

As space is getting tighter, I'm looking into building an unraid server to host my 2x 4TB plus another 2x 8TB (one as parity drive).

The main requirements would be to be as silent as the Synology if possible (it's in the living room) and as low-power as possible. And cheap. :)

Is there a list of contemporary hardware components that fits the bill?

Last time I built a system was in PentiumIII times, so I have no idea what's out there today. Please be gentle with me... :)

Thanks,

squeegy
