Is this normal?

NIC link is down is down suggesting a NIC / cable / router problem. Try a different port / cable / router.

I have a dual 10Gbe nic. I do have one of the interfaces port downed.

I couldnt figure out how to get that all setup correctly.

Maybe try the easy way out first: unplug your cable to the current port, plug it into the other port.

  • Any particular reason why you don't have bridge enabled?
  • Does your router / switch support 10GbE? Is your cable Cat 6?

Honestly, I kept having issues with the second port obtaining an IP. I am a complete novice at this. I have read multiple articles and for the life of me. I can't seem to set it up right.

NIC problem is hard to diagnosed because there can be many failure points. So you might want to try to remove the variables one by one.

  • Do you have a spare router from a friend? See if you have the same issue using a different router.
  • Do you have a different device (e.g. another PC or laptop)? Does it work with the same port on the switch?
  • Do you have a different NIC (e.g. the LAN port on your motherboard or a different NIC card)? Maybe test that out to see if perhaps the 10Gb NIC is not working properly.
  • Can you plug the eth1 port to a non-10Gb port on the router? Does it work?
  • Have you tried a different cable?
  • To remove Unraid as a variable (e.g. perhaps a driver issue), you can create a Linux install from USB (stick with something popular like Ubuntu) to see if you have the same problem.

Those are some basic tests you can do to try to isolate where the issue lies. At least you are not doing some super funky.

Router is brand new unifi gateway pro. No I do not have a second router.

I own 2 PC's one on windows and other unbuntu 19.04. I get the same log file on both devices.

I do not have another nic. My system was prebuilt.

I have tried different cables.

I can connect to either of my ports from my nic.

I am waiting for a day to really trouble shoot.

What do you mean by the same log file on both devices? So both devices connect to the same router ends up with issues too?

its not the devices connecting to unraid server that have issues. In fact no device connecting to unraid in the house has any connection issues. 4 nvidia shields 2 computers 1 windows 1 ubuntu. The log file I posted was from unraid server having issues some time after boot, I don't know why its deleting and resolving.

I assume this issue is happening some time after boot. My system has been running for 24 hours so far with no host resolving in the logs. Other then what I saw at boot. I apologize, My work hours keep me away from home a lot so I haven't had time to test and mess around with the server. I should have tomorrow off I can check everything then.

Again thank you,

So it sounds like we can eliminate the router as being the problem (other devices are working fine with it so presumably it's ok).

As I said, the deleting interface errors is due the server losing connection. So it sounds like the issue is somewhere downstream from the router. Just let your server run and see if there's any further issue.

I messed around with my network settings a little and now this is my logs after boot.
