User security works on 2003 but not 7

Featured Replies

I've created a few tester accounts but now can't access any shares.

I've listed the users in the exceptions and valid users fields in all combination's.  Also I've left the fields blank since the documentation says doing so grants all users access.

When I try to connect, I'm prompted for a user name and password, I enter them and submit, but I get an error that the server is not accessible and that I might have the wrong user name or password.

The weird thing is, it works fine on a 2003 server and 2000 workstation.  Any ideas?

Take a look here and verify how you have your permissions set.  It really shouldn't make a difference between Windows7 and Windows 2003.  If one is a member of a domain and one isn't you may need to pass the correct 'workgroup' info with the logon but that is doubtful.  One thing you could try is manually mounting a share from the command line so you have full control of what is happening.

net use x: \\tower\share /user:USERNAME

x: is the drive you want to map to (any unused drive letter is fine)

tower is the server.  You can sub in right netbios name if you have changed it or use an IP in place

USERNAME is the username you want to connect as

It will prompt you for the password which will not be displayed as you type it.

If that doesn't help, you will probably have to post your exact config details for the offending share(s) and user(s) for more help.

Oh and waiting 10 days for a bump... That is patience and you are to be commended :D
