Hi all,

I'd like to say hello to community.

I just registered few days ago, as I'm building my first unraid appliance from old unused components. My 5bay qnap with 1GB of ram is showing its limitations in every day use now, so I need to replace it. Currently I'm studying SpaceInvaderOne YT channel and learn about the unraid platform.

The build is 7x3TB WD Red/1TB MX500 SSD/i5-2400/16GB DDR3/adaptec 1430SATA and 2nd Intel NIC all in Fractal Design Define Mini case. Hopefully I get it to work as I wanted. My requirements are not that extensive so far and in the future I may upgrade CPU to i72600S if necessary or upgrade significantly. However currently the only extra cost for me was SSD for cache.

  • nfs file server for my media files
  • streaming to mobile devices using emby or stremio
  • private cloud for all my family data
  • vm remote access to home infrastructure
  • download platform for torrents
  • primary backup for my home computers
  • docker lab  platform
  • vpn serve and client and pi hole
  • backup critical data to external NAS (old QNAP)

As I wrote I'm still exploring possibilities and hopefully unraid is the way to go. I fear only on cahe drive to be worn out quickly. Besides SI1 are there any good tutorials and kb you can recommend?

best regards
