CPU thread pairs changing after reboot

Recommended Posts

I've just set up an unraid server

Fx8320 - ga970a-ud3 - 8gb ram - 2x2TB drives - 120GB ssd unassigned (dockers and vm) -  1050ti (passthrough to win 10 vm) - 500w Gold PSU

I did all the appropriate CPU pinning and gave the last 4 (paired accordingly) out of 8 total threads to win 10 vm.

When I reboot the server, thread pairs change and I end up with unpaired threads to win 10 VM and loss of responsiveness.

I start with this for exapmple

CPU:  0 1 2 5
HT:    7 3 4 6
Assigned to vm are 2-4 5-6

And after reboot it comes up like this (reboots happen to me suddenly sometimes during parity check, I don't know why yet)

CPU:  0 1 2 5
HT:    7 4 3 6

Assigned to vm are again 2-4 5-6 but not paired right

Is it only the case for Piledrivers with their peculiar architecture of logical CPUs?

Any help appreciated

This is a more pressing problem than your VM one. Have you done a Memtest?

I know waht you are saying. Did a memtest - no errors.

PSU is more than enough and CPU temps are ok.

I may change memory to different config when I buy extra 8gb dimms adn try it again.
