August 31, 20196 yr Hi I wanted to encrypt the last Disk to xfs encryption. By doing so i formatted it, but parity will not rebuild it as if i put a new disk into the system. 1 Stopped array 2 changed disk 1 to xfs encryption 3 started array 4 formatted disk 1 to encryption All data is removed in nothing is rebuild. What do i do? Now suddenly the parity disk says its disabled with a red cross too
August 31, 20196 yr Community Expert Format is a write operation. It writes an empty filesystem to the disk. Unraid treats that write operation just as it does any other, by updating parity to reflect the written data. So, after formatting a disk in the array, parity agrees the disk has an empty filesystem. Best way to recover the data is to restore it from your backups. You must always have another copy of anything important and irreplaceable. Parity is not a substitute for backups. There are plenty of ways to lose data without an actual disk failure, including user error as you have seen. As for the disabled parity, it will have to be rebuilt. But before that, go to Tools - Diagnostics and attach the complete diagnostics zip file to your next post so we can get a more complete idea of your situation.
August 31, 20196 yr Author Ah Then i have to use backup, but I used many hours sorting my files. I guess i have to do it again. I started the array without parity, then stopped and activated parity gain. Then it worked and started syncing the parity drive. Thanks for fast reply
August 31, 20196 yr If you want to use encryption, keep in mind to save the disk content somewhere else first before enabling encryption. Changing the file system of a disk requires a format and hence all data on the disk is lost.
