Missing shares and read-only drive issues

Featured Replies

I am having multiple issues with my unraid server and I think that they are related.

The first issue I am having is one of my disks in my array is set to read only. It is a new disk that I added to the array after I ran a preclear on it and it passed successfully. I just removed it from the array and added it back (currently parity-sync right now).

The next issue I am having is that I am missing shares on my array (not all just some of the newer ones). I created one called "nextcloud-data" and it's there when I start the array and then when I go and add the nextcloud docker it gives an error that it doesn't exist. I go back to the shares tab and it is gone but not my older shares. I then proceed to just create a new share to see if the new share will create and I get an input/output error.

Sep 4 10:01:41 Tower root: mkdir: cannot create directory '/mnt/user/test': Input/output error

Is this an issue with the SATA cables? I don't have anything on the unraid that I can't add back. Should I just start from scratch?

That's not how you fix a filesystem problem:

Post diags if more help is needed.

Attached is the diagnostics. I can't take it offline as it is in a rebuild. I will try the repair on the xfs when that is done.

Just finished the scan. Running the command below.

xfs_repair -v /dev/md3

As it started it did give this error message.

Phase 1 - find and verify superblock...
couldn't verify primary superblock - not enough secondary superblocks with matching geometry !!!

attempting to find secondary superblock...

It is proceeded by a bunch of hyphens like it is looking for the superblock.

It's looking for a secondary superblock, it can take a while, but not a good sign.

I checked it this morning and it shows below.

Sorry, could not find valid secondary superblock
Exiting now.

I don't have anything on the disk. Is it possible to just reformat it? Is this something that I need to do to the whole array? Like I said before there is nothing on the unraid that I can't re upload.

I did a repair on the other two drives and they came back clean. I think I just need to reformat this disk. How do I go about doing that?

Is there not an option in the array operations of the main GUI that says "unformatted disks present"? Normally you would just select the checkbox saying I'm sure, and click format.

No as it is already formatted and apart of the array. I just want to reformat it as there is nothing on it.

The format button is next to the start/stop array buttons.

If you are not being offered the option to format the disk do the following:

  • Stop the array
  • Click on the disk and set the format to be something different
  • start the array.
  • you should now have the option to format the disk.    Check that it is the correct disk that is mentioned before going ahead with the format as you do not want to inadvertently format a different disk.
  • stop the array
  • change the format to the one you want to end up with
  • start the array
  • format the drive.    This time you should end up with an empty file system on the drive of the type you want

Format operations only take a few minutes so the above sequence is a actually quite quick.

That seemed to do it. I am not getting errors now when I create a share. Thank you for all the help.
