Froberg
Hi all I'm pondering setting up my, ancient, mediasmart homeserver as a straight up datadump for array backups. I have some old Seagate Archive drives kicking around and figured I could use UnRaid for this secondary array and just drop parity altogether and use these totally raid-unsuitable drives. But that shouldn't matter since it's.. not RAID? Or am I missing the big picture altogether here? Quote Link to comment
landS
I'd run Pre-Clear on the drives to ensure they are still good, but seams perfectly good (free?) way to setup local backups. Perhaps via an rsync users script? Quote Link to comment

landS
I do the same at my home. I eventually added parity to the secondary backup server - not because it was required, but because I desired some faulure tolerance on the backup copies. 1 Quote Link to comment
