September 14, 20196 yr Hello I have been using Unraid for a couple years and today I got a notification that a disk is in error state. It now has a red X beside it and it says, "disk is disabled, contents emulated." I am trying to figure out if the disk needs to be replaced or if there is something I can do to repair it. I would appreciate it if someone more experienced could take a look at my logs and understand what happened (it's all gibberish to me!). The disk with the errors is WDC_WD40EFRX-68WT0N0_WD-WCC4ERVS3R58. Thanks is advance for any assistance. repository-diagnostics-20190914-0913 anonymized.zip
September 15, 20196 yr Community Expert At first it looked more like a connection problem, since there are several timeout errors form early on, there there are also some media errors, but since the disk dropped offline there's no SMART, power down, replace cables to rule them out and post new diags so we can see the SMART report. P.S: unless there's reason for it disable mover logging to avoid filling the log.
September 15, 20196 yr Author Thanks for trying to help me out! I changed the cable on the faulty drive. Upon booting up nothing has changed. It still has a red x and when I try to run a smart self-test it goes to 10% then says "interrupted (host rest)." Is is possible that a drive will give this error because it is failing or does it still sound like something else (the SATA port failing, somehow having the replacement cable be faulty as well, etc.)? Also, I couldn't find the setting to disable mover logging.

Please post new diags that include SMART report, host reset during SMART test it's not usually a disk problem.
September 16, 20196 yr Author Ok, I ran the SMART test again and then saved the diagnostics. Hopefully that includes everything you need. repository-diagnostics-20190916-0615 anonymized.zip
September 16, 20196 yr Community Expert SMART attributes look fine, there are some UNC .@ LBA errors that suggest a disk problem, but they were from a couple of months ago, you'd need to run an extended SMART test, looks like something is causing the test to abort, you can try again with the array stopped to see if it makes any difference, or just replace/swap cables to rule them out and rebuild, if the same disk fails again replace it.
September 16, 20196 yr Author Everything I have been doing has been while the array is stopped. I didn't want the array up since it is currently degraded and I was worried about a second drive having problems. I didn't think that would make a difference for running a SMART test on the drive. Do I need to try again with the array started? Thanks again for your assistance!
