Parity Drive Disabled after Power Failure

Featured Replies

Hiho all,

Hoping to get a bit of advice if I can...

I had a power failure over the weekend, which took my unraid array down.

Upon reboot, all of my data drives were green, but my parity drive was orange and unraid reported "new parity drive attached".

After a bit of reading here, and as my data drives were fine, I elected to start the array and let a new parity calculation take place.

It went ahead and seemed to be progressing at acceptable speed.  Problem is, overnight I have returned and the drive is red (disabled) with write errors.

Syslog is attached.  Everything appears fine until the end of the log, when it is obvious something seems up with the Parity drive.  Is this one fairly obvious?  Time to replace the drive, or could something else have occurred?

Apologies, i did not get a chance to get SMART data before I had to run to work...

Thanks in advance!

I'm not seeing anything immediately wrong in your syslog. It does show that it thinks disk0 was replaced. After that, it sounds like a disk gone bad to me. I would guess that it got reported as "replaced" because it was sending back garbled stuff when polled as to its identity, and then when you initiated a parity calculation, unRAID discovered that it doesn't write properly, and took it offline.

I would say try a new parity disk. Oh, and it's probably time for a UPS, if you don't already have one.

Thanks, much appreciated.

I thought that might be the case, but thought it wise to ask someone here to run their eyes over it.

I picked up a new Parity drive along with a UPS on the way home tonight, should have done the UPS think ages ago...

Cheers!
