September 16, 20196 yr I´m sorry to write this also. I could not get my array to start. I don´t know what is the matter now, as it has worked fine. And suddenly it wont start anymore. All is fine, parity, temperatures and so on, so I think that it must be the flash. I checked the flash and when trying to get to /config windows reports that the folder cannot be read that it might be corrupted. I went to CMD and found out that the whole folder is empty ! -Now what? I do have the email for the KEY...i hope, (yes I have, just checked), but as it happened, I didn´t know the backup function of this flash drive that it would be possible to do...so there is no backup. Some files are seen on the drive so all is not lost. So what are the steps next. I think that this is not a HW failure as disk spin up and so on. I can see that bios (supermicro) is accessible but I think that UR is not loading to server....so can someone nodge to right direction...what should be the next steps

September 16, 20196 yr Community Expert Put flash in your PC and let it checkdisk. While there make a backup. Try again, use a USB2 port to boot from if you have one.
September 17, 20196 yr Author So far what I know from out memory (now going to work) I have dual parity 10 disks, I do know the parity drives....I hope disk 1 and 6 and no cache drives yet installed.I think what I can remember out of my head. Disks 2-5 are in use, other are assigned but no stuff in there yet. So no detailed description of the drive assignments. I will do the chkdsk to the drive when I get home is there some actions that the chkdsk should perform to the drive? ...now the main worry is that is the stuff in the array...is it gone?
September 17, 20196 yr Community Expert One way to proceed if there is any uncertainty about which are parity disks and which are array disks is: assign ALL unknown disks as data disks. start the array. The parity disks will show as Unmountable and all the others should mount OK. Make a note of the serial numbers of the parity disks in particular. stop the array use Tools->New Config to set the array back to an uninitialised state assign the disks as you want them to end up now that you know which are the parity disks. Order is not important unless you have restricted shares to particular drives. start the array with the current (hopefully correct) assignments and the system will start rebuilding parity based on the current assignments. Your data should immediately be visible. At this point I suggest you make a backup of the flash drive by clicking on it on the Main tab and using the backup option from there. Save this backup to somewhere you can easily get to even if the array is not online. It is a good idea to make such a backup any time you change the hardware configuration of your server in any way. it can also be useful to keep a screenshot of the assignments on the Main tab as a quick reference.

In any case, I suggest you 14 hours ago, trurl said: Put flash in your PC and let it checkdisk. While there make a backup. September 17, 20196 yr Author So I´ve now worked about 3hrs with this drive. Unable to copy via Windows, CMD....even tried winimage to make a bootable drive to another FLASH and no result...every attempt will fail to an error or so. Windows cannot access or copy /config as data is not readable. and winimage cannot make bootable flashdrive as source data is corrupted and errors and so on. So I give up then. It seems that I need to make a new flash then ? I tried also CHKDSK and it cannot fix drive, chkdsk has now been running 1,5 hrs and no result. any suggestions, I´m willing to try to make a new drive, as I have spare drive in good condition ? September 17, 20196 yr Author OK, got it. YEAAAHH the server is up and running again. OK, so that I don´t make it wrong, how is the registration key entered to system, as it is purchaced 2017 and the instructions are for UR6, and I did install UR7.xx.
September 17, 20196 yr Author Ok, got the key right and now the array is registered....Can someone please advise with the next step. SO there is 10 disks and 2 parity drives, how to get that up and running. Thank you. Edited September 17, 20196 yr by Cren0
September 17, 20196 yr Community Expert I have split your portion of this thread into its own topic so we don't get confused about which person we are talking to and give the wrong advice. Don't hijack the support thread of another user! It can actually have disastrous consequences!
September 17, 20196 yr Community Expert Since you have 2 parity disks, then when you assign all disks as data, you should only have 2 unmountable disks. Those would be the parity disks. If you have more than those 2 unmountable disks, come back for further advice. 12 hours ago, itimpi said: One way to proceed if there is any uncertainty about which are parity disks and which are array disks is: assign ALL unknown disks as data disks. start the array. September 17, 20196 yr Author Ok, sorry about that. Intention was not to hijack anybody´s conversations, merely to gain advice on a same kind problem (not to start another thread on a same topic). I see that every user can have different kinds of issues which require different approach as mine. Will next time consider to start a new thread then. Thanks for the advice (very happy that the array is now up and running) and will take a look at the instructions tomorrow. Will post the results then. Thanks.
September 18, 20196 yr Author Did everything as instructed and seems to be working, I found easily parity drives and assigned them correctly, everything seems to be in order and files intact. Now after all this will make copy of the FLASH. Hopefully this will not happen again. Thanks for all the help.
