Tower constantly disconnecting USB , then discovering 'new' device every couple of minutes

Starting around 15 hours ago my server log has been filled with these type of entries:

Over the same time period the fan on my server (HP Proliant Gen 8 Microserver) has been ramping up every few minutes, where it then runs at full speed for between 30 and 90s before dropping back to normal levels.

 

The only USB device I have connected to the server is the USB stick running unraid. As far as I can tell everything seems to be running fine, temps are OK, disk access seems normal, there hasn't been undue CPU load. This started spontaneously at about 8am.

I'm still suffering this issue. I tried an OS downgrade then upgrade to see if it resolved it but no joy. 

 

Can anyone help?

is it usb 3? They recommend USB 2.

No, it's USB 2. I don't think the issue is with the unraid USB stick anyway as the OS functions apparently normally throughout.

First thing I'd do is remove your add on USB controller card (Hard to tell exactly if it's integrated on the mobo or not) and see if the problem goes away.
