Hi Folks,

 

So I just bit the bullet and bought two of those SuperMicros servers on Ebay, and now need a rack to put them in (well... I guess I don't *need* one, but sure do want one ).

 

I believe the best priced small rack is one of these two guys:

 

StarTech DuraRack 12u

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I think I can get the more expensive one price-matched to around the same price, so don't factor the initial cost (May need to pay an extra $40 for caster for the one without wheels though...)

 

I've never had a rack or worked with a rack, so I'm a complete newb in this area. Any direction would be much appreciated. I've read that people have gotten used ones off Ebay for next to nothing, but I haven't seen anything that really works for me, especially being up in Canada. I've looked in a 500km radius around my city, and haven't seen anything suitable, so I think new is my only choice.

I like the looks of this one which can be had in the states for ~$300 delivered.

I like the look of the istar one (especially if it comes with the extras), but it's a 22u which is a bit big for me. The norco looks nice, but I already ordered the startech rack . Here's a recent review of the Norco, if you're interested. Seems to do reasonably well:

The istar does not come with the extras in the pic, but I agree if it did that would be a big draw.

I worry about this:

I wonder if the rails that come with the SuperMicro SC933T-R760 case won't work with this rack?

Good question! May add to the cost if you have to buy extra parts as well...

I don't know how good your area is for craigslist, but I am constantly surprised by the number of used server racks coming up for sale in my area at really attractive prices. Might be worth a search.
