Joe L., where is the proper location?  And thanks.  I'm assuming if I configure to write to a different disk the existing downloads will need to be deleted and re downloaded from scratch?  I am learning with this transmission package if you couldn't tell and I haven't been able to find any detailed info on usage and setup.  Unfortunately I started the downloads (fairly large) before creating a user share.  Then once I realized drive 1 was fully I created a user share hoping they would start utilizing the other drives.  But that didn't work (maybe becasue i created the share after the fact?).  I don't wan't to change the script to point to a different drive due to this happening all over again. Prostuff1... I don't have a cache drive so that isn't a worry.  I guess I have two questions.  1.  What settings/script chages are needed to have the downloads go to all available drives.  2. Is there a way to get the already in progress downloads (currently paused do to no space left on drive 1) to start going across the drives without loosing the time I have into them already.

Number 1 is my biggest concern and i'm certain there's a way to do.  Number 2 is just to salvage the download time already invested.

Copy these questions to the thread for Transmission over in the Customization forum and I will answer them there when I get a chance.

Thank you, subject moved.

Well just got uTorrent running on my test box remarkably easily ;D

All I have to do now is figure out a few move and rename scripts and I can say goodbye to WHS.

@Venares

I'm trying to setup utorrent linux on my unraid too. Are you able to configure the downloaded file directory? I'm only able to download the torrent to the /boot/ (unraid usb drive). Any other directories I try in /mnt/ (eg. /mnt/disk1/torrents/) will result Error: ??. Hope you can help.

Thanks!

downloading to the flash drive is a recipe for a short lived flash drive.  (they all allow only a limited number of "writes" before they stop working)

Thanks for the advice Joe, yeap I realised that, been trying to find out why it doesn't like the /mnt/ path. Would like to use Tranmission but unfortunately my ISP actively blocks torrent packet, so it's really super duper turtle mode :(. So far only utorrent's uTP works here.

Transmission also doesn't appear to support RSS feeds or filtering through them. I've seen the PC front-end for this that looks much like uTorrent but it doesn't have this either. I don't use this to auto-download (I could) but I do use this to sort through feeds to find specific files of interest wherein all I need to do is click "start" and it will be downloaded to the correct folder. My downloads do not go into a central folder to then be moved, they go into the folders I intend them to stay in. I like the opensource nature of Transmission and have played with it several times in hopes of finding it good enough to allow me to power down my PC when not in active use by me or a transcoding operation but thus far have found it lacking. Will keep waiting I guess and checkout uTorrent on Linux in the meantime. Not sure I want that load on my unRAId and my HTPC are all controlled via handheld remotes. For now I will likely stick to uTorrent on my PC for full-time usage...

This is my one major issue with Transmission. No built in RSS.

And the RSS in Utorrent Linux is a pig as there is no webgui support yet.

Back to windows for the time being  :(

You guys can use transmission remote which i a good gui for transmission. It supports rss feeds, but won't auto download them, just gives you a list and you click them to download.

I was dissatisfied with Transmission, so I'm giving uTorrent a try. From what I've gathered, running it is as simple as running utserver, but I can't seem to get access to the webui. When I try to access http://tower:8080/gui, I get a 404 error and a link to return to unMENU. Is unMENU interfering, or am I accessing the wrong URL? If it's the former, how do I stop unMENU?

Edit: after reading a bit, it seems that utserver may not be running properly after all. Can someone make sense of this?

root@Tower:/boot/utorrent-server-v3_0# utserver
utserver: /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8: no version information available (required by utserver)
utserver: /usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.8: no version information available (required by utserver)
server started - using locale <NULL>

They both can't use the same port.  You'll need to configure one of the other to use a different port.

(And you'll also need to deal with any missing shared library files)

I think I might give this a try as well. Not having labels in Transmission is a big deal for me.

What was it about Transmission that you didn't like? I am waiting for the Transmission tweaks to be implemented (see other thread) and will try it.

thanks

The dealbreaker for me is that when one downloads a torrent with multiple files, the folder it downloads to can't be renamed from the name of the torrent. This is incompatible with the way I've been doing things with uTorrent, as I always rename the download folder for a piece of media to adhere to a specific convention.

Well, I've tried for a while, and have been unable to get uTorrent working. If anyone else gets it going, I'd be grateful for some instructions on how to do so.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, I fiddled around with it until I got uTorrent running. Unfortunately, it has even more limited save directory options than Transmission did, so that idea is scrapped.

I guess I'm going to try to get VirtualBox running. Is 2GB of RAM enough for an Ubuntu VM that will be only used for Wine uTorrent?

So what's the consensus? I'm a uTorrent user in Windows, and new to unRAID, and was wondering what I should install. Thanks.

Even though I was dissatisfied with both, I liked Transmission with the remote GUI better. However, I didn't really get a sense of which is better in terms of performance, but I'd imagine that there wouldn't be a huge difference.

Someone PMed me regarding getting how I got uTorrent to work, so I thought it would be better to answer here, in case someone else is having a similar problem.

My problem was that I couldn't access the webUI because of a port conflict with unMENU. Setting a different port in the uTorrent configuration didn't seem to get recognized.

My solution was to stop unMENU (the only way I could figure out how to do this was by removing the unMENU entry from my boot script and rebooting).

This allowed me to finally access the webUI. From there, I was able to change uTorrent's port, so I did so and re-enabled unMENU in my boot script.

Unfortunately, the webUI didn't allow me to change the download directory for each individual torrent, so it was of no use to me.

I am pretty sure you can change the port unMenu listens on.

well, i tried doing that and no go.

Just get a HTTP400 error.

When i run utserver this is what i get in my putty session...

root@Tower:/boot/utorrent# utserver

utserver: /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8: no version information available (required by utserver)

utserver: /usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.8: no version information available (required by utserver)

server started - using locale <NULL>

Using locale C

total physical memory -1 max disk cache 33554432

any ideas? thx :)

Hey everyone.

I have the same problem as user above me.

Unfortunately zero Linux/unRAID knowledge to fix this by myself :/

Thank you for your help.

utserver: /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8: no version information available (required by utserver)
utserver: /usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.8: no version information available (required by utserver)
utserver: /usr/libc.so.6: version 'GLIBC_2.11' not found (required by utserver)

When you get a message about missing this or that it typically means you need to install the package. Do a google search for the name of the library and "slackware". Then pick a txz that matches your architecture (e.g. i686 32 bit), download it, then run installpkg.

I'm not totally familiar with the slackware package manager, but I just upgraded transmission-daemon this way.
